On-boarding Program Offers Product Customization and Expert Technical Support to Early-Adopters in Automotive, Industrial and Consumer Markets; Program Launches August 28, 2020; Applications Due Now
“While our 3D-sensing products leverage innovative Liquid Crystal Metasurfaces™ (LCMs) to provide significant performance and cost advantages in several key markets, we know that customers want to accelerate time-to-market for their sensing systems with differentiated, application-specific features,” said Lumotive co-founder and CEO, Dr. William Colleran. “For companies developing LiDAR products targeting automotive, industrial and consumer markets, our EAP delivers access to Lumotive’s technology — including our software-defined beam-steering API — well before general availability. In exchange, Lumotive gains a number of early-adopter partners and valuable insight into their product requirements which drives our own core technology development.”
Lumotive is considering EAP partners in the following markets:
- Automotive: OEMs, tier-1 suppliers and full-stack autonomous vehicle companies
- Industrial: Companies addressing robotics, process automation and factory logistics
- Consumer: Mobile device manufacturers and technology developers

“EAP programs are common in the software industry, but Lumotive’s program uniquely addresses both software and hardware customization which is crucial to LiDAR product differentiation in several important markets,” said Alexis Debray, PhD. Technology & Market Analyst at Yole Développement (Yole), “The program is an excellent opportunity for selected companies to customize their LiDAR offerings for specific use-cases by optimizing form-factor, performance, and software-controlled operating modes among other factors.”
About Lumotive’s LiDAR Products
The Lumotive product platform leverages the company’s patented solid-state beam-steering technology and scalable approach to meet the specific range, field-of-view, resolution and form-factor needs for each product’s target applications. LCMs enable more compact and reliable LiDAR systems than legacy mechanical spinning approaches, and the new beam-steering technology provides larger aperture for greater range and more efficient implementation compared to MEMS-based systems. Further, Lumotive’s random access beam-steering enables the industry’s first software-defined LiDAR with region-of-interest scanning, object tracking and advanced perception capabilities. Lumotive can meet demanding cost constraints in all three market segments by utilizing mature CMOS chip manufacturing processes that deliver high volume at competitive costs. With samples available in the fourth quarter of this year, the Lumotive X20™ and Lumotive Z20™ LiDAR systems target the automotive and industrial automation markets, respectively. Lumotive’s M20™, addressing needs of the consumer and mobile markets, will be introduced in 2021.
Lumotive’s X20 and Z20 build on the company’s X10 prototype of the same architecture. These LiDAR systems efficiently integrate modules for transmit, receive and beam-steering which may be used by automotive tier-1 suppliers and industrial sensor product vendors seeking to enhance their own LiDAR offerings. The X20 targets automotive applications with range over 150 meters in bright sunlight and a 140° x 30° field of view. The Z20 will have a shorter range (~ 50 meters) but an expanded 70° vertical field of view to address industrial and short-range automotive needs. Full performance details are available from Lumotive.
Lumotive showcased its revolutionary LiDAR technology with a successful demonstration of the X10 prototype at the CES trade show in Las Vegas in January of 2020. The company has received industry acclaim with inclusion in Laser Focus World’s “Top 20 Photonics Technologies for 2019,” Built In Seattle’s “Best Small Companies to Work For in 2020,” JMP Securities Efficient Fifty list of “the most interesting private companies in industrial and energy technology, and EE Times’ “Silicon 100: Emerging Startups to Watch.”
